eventSAIC Meeting and Collaboration

IPNL hosted a meeting with SAIC Motor Corporation (formerly Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation), one of China’s largest state-owned automotive manufacturers, to discuss collaborative research opportunities in intelligent vehicle positioning. Headquartered in Shanghai, SAIC Motor is a major player in the global automotive industry and has been actively investing in autonomous driving technology, intelligent connected vehicles, and new energy vehicles as part of its strategic transformation.
The meeting focused on the critical role that high-accuracy, high-integrity positioning plays in enabling autonomous and assisted driving functions. Representatives from SAIC and IPNL discussed the technical challenges of achieving reliable vehicle localization in complex urban traffic environments, where GNSS signals are frequently obstructed or reflected by surrounding structures. Topics included the fusion of GNSS with inertial navigation, LiDAR, and camera-based perception systems, as well as integrity monitoring approaches necessary for safety-critical automotive applications.
The discussions reflected the growing demand from the automotive industry for robust positioning solutions that can operate reliably across diverse driving conditions. IPNL’s expertise in urban GNSS positioning, factor graph optimization, and multi-sensor fusion aligns well with the practical needs of intelligent vehicle development. Such industry-academic exchanges are vital for ensuring that advances in navigation research are directed toward real-world requirements, and IPNL looks forward to exploring further collaboration with SAIC on positioning technologies for next-generation intelligent vehicles.
