awardQianhai Competition Award

A team from the Intelligent Positioning and Navigation Laboratory (IPNL) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University received recognition at the Qianhai innovation and entrepreneurship competition held in Shenzhen, China. The Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone is a major special economic zone established by the Chinese central government in the western part of Shenzhen, designed to deepen cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong and to serve as a hub for innovation, financial services, and technology development.
The Qianhai innovation competition brings together teams from universities, research institutes, and startups across the Greater Bay Area to present technology-driven solutions with commercial potential. The IPNL team presented work related to positioning and navigation technologies applicable to urban environments, drawing on the lab’s expertise in GNSS-based solutions, sensor fusion, and intelligent transportation systems. These technologies are particularly relevant to the Shenzhen-Hong Kong corridor, where dense urban development creates significant challenges for reliable positioning.
Participation in competitions such as this reflects IPNL’s commitment to translating academic research into practical applications. The Greater Bay Area’s rapid development of autonomous vehicles, smart city infrastructure, and logistics systems creates strong demand for the kind of robust urban positioning technology that IPNL develops. This recognition highlights the potential for the lab’s research to contribute to real-world innovation beyond the academic domain.
