talkPolyU at ION GNSS+ 2024 Baltimore: Tutorial Lecturer + 2023 Most Cited Manuscript Award (FGO vs EKF)

Prof. Li-Ta Hsu had a multi-role contribution at the Institute of Navigation’s flagship ION GNSS+ 2024 technical meeting in Baltimore, Maryland in September 2024:
Tutorial Lecturer — Indoor Navigation and Positioning (1.5 hours). Prof. Hsu continued his long-running role as a Pre-Conference Tutorial Lecturer at ION GNSS+, delivering a 1.5-hour session on indoor navigation. This was the third year in the recurring tutorial role at ION GNSS+ (3.5-hour editions in 2020 and 2021, both delivered virtually during the pandemic; 1.5-hour in-person edition at Baltimore 2024).
2023 Most Cited Manuscript Award (NAVIGATION). The paper “Factor Graph Optimization for GNSS/INS Integration: A Comparison with the Extended Kalman Filter” (Wen, Pfeifer, Bai, Hsu — published in NAVIGATION: Journal of the Institute of Navigation Vol. 68, No. 2) received the 2023 Most Cited Manuscript Award. The paper provides a foundational comparison of factor-graph optimization against the classical EKF for tightly-coupled GNSS/INS integration in challenging urban environments, and has become a widely-referenced primer in the GNSS-FGO research community.
Session Chair role. Prof. Hsu also chaired one of the GNSS technical sessions at the conference, continuing a multi-year recurring Session Chair contribution.
The lab’s UrbanNav dataset paper received a separate Most Cited Paper Award from NAVIGATION the same year — covered in a parallel news post.
