GNSS Summer School 2018

In July 2018, IPNL hosted the second edition of its GNSS Summer School, building on the success of the inaugural programme held the previous year. The summer school brought together students and early-career researchers for an intensive training programme covering the theory and practice of Global Navigation Satellite Systems. Participants were introduced to a range of topics spanning GNSS signal structures, observation models, error sources, and positioning techniques, progressing from foundational concepts to more advanced material over the course of the programme.

A distinguishing feature of the summer school was its emphasis on hands-on learning. In addition to lectures delivered by experienced researchers and faculty, participants engaged in practical sessions involving GNSS receivers and data processing software. These exercises gave attendees the opportunity to work directly with real satellite signals, perform positioning computations, and gain first-hand experience with the tools and workflows used in contemporary GNSS research. This blend of theory and practice was designed to equip participants with skills they could apply immediately in their own studies and projects.

The 2018 GNSS Summer School reinforced IPNL’s commitment to education and knowledge sharing within the positioning and navigation community. By offering a structured yet accessible programme, the lab provided a valuable learning opportunity for students at various stages of their academic careers, while also fostering connections among participants who share an interest in satellite-based positioning technologies.
