Endowed Young Scholars Award

Dr. Li-Ta Hsu was recognized with the Endowed Young Scholars award at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The PolyU Endowed Young Scholars scheme is a university-wide program designed to support outstanding early-career faculty members who have demonstrated exceptional research potential and scholarly achievement. Recipients of the award receive dedicated funding to advance their research programs, reflecting the university’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of academic leaders across its faculties.

Dr. Hsu received this recognition for his impactful research in urban GNSS positioning, 3D mapping-aided navigation, and multi-sensor fusion. As the founder and director of the Intelligent Positioning and Navigation Laboratory (IPNL) in the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, Dr. Hsu has built a research group that addresses some of the most challenging problems in satellite-based positioning, particularly in dense urban environments such as Hong Kong where tall buildings cause severe signal degradation.

The Endowed Young Scholars designation provides valuable support for Dr. Hsu’s ongoing investigations into factor graph optimization techniques, integrity monitoring for safety-critical applications, and the development of open-source tools and datasets that serve the broader navigation research community. This award further solidifies IPNL’s position as a leading research group in the field of urban positioning and navigation.
