leadershipDr. Hsu serves as General Chair for IPIN 2024
Dr. Li-Ta Hsu served as General Chair for the 14th International Conference on Indoor Positioning and Indoor Navigation (IPIN 2024), hosted at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. IPIN is the leading annual conference dedicated to research and applications in indoor positioning and navigation, bringing together researchers, industry professionals, and practitioners from around the world. Since its inception, the conference has served as a key forum for presenting advances in technologies such as Wi-Fi fingerprinting, ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging, inertial navigation, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), visual positioning, and sensor fusion for indoor environments.
The 2024 edition of IPIN was held at PolyU’s campus in Hong Kong, marking a significant occasion for the indoor positioning research community in the Asia-Pacific region. Hong Kong, with its dense urban infrastructure of multi-level shopping malls, underground transit networks, and high-rise buildings, provides an especially relevant setting for discussing the challenges and opportunities of indoor navigation technology. The conference program featured technical paper sessions, keynote presentations, an indoor localization competition, and exhibition activities.
As General Chair, Dr. Hsu was responsible for overseeing the organization of the entire conference, including the technical program, logistics, sponsorship, and coordination among the organizing committees. This leadership role reflects his long-standing contributions to the indoor positioning research community and his expertise in navigation systems that span both outdoor GNSS-denied and indoor environments. Dr. Hsu’s own research at the Intelligent Positioning and Navigation Laboratory (IPNL) encompasses indoor positioning techniques alongside his core work in urban GNSS and multi-sensor fusion.
The successful hosting of IPIN 2024 at PolyU further strengthened the university’s profile as a leading institution for positioning and navigation research in Asia and globally.
